'Alcoholics Anonymous saved my life, but now I’ve lost my faith'

Jon Stewart spent 14 years attending AA meetings. They got him sober, but at a cost. He asks why so few alcoholics are offered alternative treatments.

An interesting article.

  1. The compulsive taking of 10th step, and even 4th anwysd 5th steps, can produce anxiety and a desire for perfection. AA did not always encourage this but in its increasingly cultIsh forms it does. This, when combined with no real outside therapy to deal with underlying issues, produces over the long run some real "sick puppies", as we say in the US. Oldtimers can, therefore, be pretty sick and influencing others in AA. If you stay in get real non-12 step therapy.
