AA Conference questions (2015) contd

2. Multiple Home Groups - What are the pros and cons of having more than one home group?

Background

Leaflet “The AA Group”
Book “The Home Group: Heartbeat of AA”

Comment: Well from the cult's point of view a couple of home groups is an efficient way of 'spreading the disease'. You have one group which is 'on message' (ie. cult) and then another which is mainstream AA where cult dogma can more widely be disseminated (eg. sponsorship worship etc). The cult's been doing this for years especially where they can insert one of their members into the group secretary's position. Then you end up with a sequence of extremely boring 'scripted' chairs who mainly share their lack of experience, strength and hope substituting instead the rather threadbare message composed mostly of “emotional froth” such as: “happy, joyous and free”, “never had a bad day”, “my sponsor says this and my sponsor says that” etc until finally the regulars crack and either agree to a mutual suicide pact or more constructively sack the offender! For our part we can't see a particularly good reason for having more than one home group. After all does anyone actually NEED two homes! And, of course, you may be disposed to the vagrant way of life and prefer to have NONE at all! It's not a requirement for membership nor is it “essential” to recovery
