An
allegation has been made of an assault on a female newcomer by a male
AA member (date unclear). Our correspondent is rather vague on the details (although
the names of the various parties have been supplied). Apparently the
attack was carried out by a former intergroup officer on a “newcomer
female who asked for it as she was drunk”. This incident was
witnessed by two other male members (names given). Apparently the
matter was discussed by the Thames Valley Intergroup but the two
witnesses refused to give a statement to the police? Subsequently
(it is claimed) one of the witnesses himself got a “newcomer [who
was] still drinking and on antidepressants pregnant. This was around
2004/5”. The former now rarely attends AA meetings. The other
'witness' however continues to attend but is described as a
disruptive influence: “stopp[ing] people sharing feelings of
depression. Members that openly say they take medication as
prescribed for mental health are not allowed to share, or dropped by
their sponsors. Also if the members are not working full-time or
even part time, they are told to get responsible quick …... Also
there are some people in local drug and alcohol services that will
not send newcomers to meetings. 13th stepping that's
covered up if the offender hangs around or is sponsored by certain
individuals”.
Comment:
All sounds pretty messy to us. Any further information on this would
be appreciated
