“27. Could AA do more
to respond effectively to increasing media coverage on alcohol issues
such as women’s health, rising hospital admissions, fixed pricing,
government policies and National Treatment Agency interest?
Terms

Comment:
We could but we shouldn't! It's not AA's function to respond to any
kind of media coverage let alone get involved in “women's health,
rising hospital admissions” etc issues. These matters relate
primarily to government health policy (such as it is – the present
administration's record is hardly inspiring eg cigarette packaging,
minimum pricing on alcohol, stealthy - and not so stealthy -
privatisation of the NHS etc) and therefore “outside” our ambit
of responsibility (see Traditions).
Our focus should remain strictly with helping the still suffering
alcoholic and not getting sidetracked. We may co-operate with such
agencies but we do NOT 'operate' on their behalf!

'filter'
